Our Ministries

Each of our ministries is geared toward meeting the tangible, relational, and spiritual needs of those we serve. Our goal is to help arm individuals with whatever they might need to live fruitful and fulfilling lives for themselves, their families, and their community.

The majority of our work takes place in Highland Park, as this is our community. We are firmly convinced that in order to help a community, one must become part of that community and work from within. We seek to work in partnership with the local community and church leadership to maximize our efforts in bringing transformation to our neighborhood.

  • Squirrels Baseball GameYouth Life @ Night is a program for middle and high school students that is designed to help bridge that transitional time between childhood and young adulthood which can be such a challenge. Addressing needs particular to this age group, we focus on three areas: organizational skills, academic elevation, and spiritual development.

Youth Life @ Night currently meets every Monday and Thursday evening from 6-7:30 PM at the Delmont Plaza Apartments Learning Center.

  • Young ladies volunteeringJSS is a discipleship program for at-risk teen girls . Through the development of close mentoring relationships, our ultimate goal is to enable these girls to see their true value through Jesus Christ and to develop healthy lifestyle habits and leadership skills. JSS is also designed to teach and encourage the girls to develop their God-given abilities and build self-esteem through scriptural truth. We currently meet at Northminster Baptist Church at 3121 Moss Side Ave.  See our calendar for meeting dates and times.

  • In partnership with the Youth Life Foundation of Richmond, we offer free after school academic tutoring and mentoring to a limited number of students from Overby Sheppard Elementary.

The Learning Center provides a safe and structured environment, with certified teachers and trained volunteer mentors instructing the children daily from 2:30 PM-6:00 PM.

We encourage the children's ability to complete their homework successfully and strengthen their academic skills in identified areas of weakness.

Daily Bible lessons are also used to teach the children good citizenship and to develop important moral values.

  • In front of the Thrift StoreThe bottom floor of the NOC building houses a thrift store that provides quality clothing and home furnishings at an affordable price for Highland Park residents and patrons.

The thrift store is most importantly an avenue to minister to the physical, relational, and spiritual needs of many who walk through our door. Those within the community know that those volunteering at the store will always welcome them with a smile, a listening ear, a loving hand, and a prayer lifted up to God on their behalf.

All profits from the thrift store are invested back into the community as they help to support the ministries of the NOC.  We are always in need of new items for the store.  Please call for ways to contribute.

Store hours are Monday-Friday 10AM-2PM. Yard Sale on the first Saturday of each month.

Overcomers Outreach (OO) is a Christ centered 12 step program for individuals affected by any type of addiction. Overcomers mission is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the hurting, and to meet human needs in His name.

The support group participants, whatever their need, find the extra care and encouragement necessary to grow beyond the wounds of life’s battles, the difficulties in family relationships, the bondage of addictive habits and behaviors, and the isolation caused by shame. Our meetings are filled with the faith, hope, and love that only God can provide.

OO meets every Tuesday evening at the NOC building from 7-8PM.

Overcomers’ Outreach is led by Scott Paxson who has personally experienced the life changing power of the gospel in his life.
